Pill Connect has been certified to ISO 27001, the international standard for information security management.

The certification follows an independent two-stage audit of how we manage information security across the company. It covers the platform that receives dose-by-dose adherence data from our connected dispensers, the processes for handling patient-level data from clinical trials, access controls, and how we plan for and respond to security incidents.

ISO 27001 sits alongside our ISO 9001 certified quality management system. The two now operate as one integrated management system, which is why our management reviews take twice as long.

For sponsors and sites, the practical meaning is straightforward. Adherence data in a clinical trial is patient data. Before it can be used to detect non-adherence and alert a site team in real time, it has to move from a bottle in a patient’s home to our platform and on to the study team, and every step of that pipeline needs to be secure. Vendor assessments and IT security questionnaires ask how we manage this. The answer is now an audited certificate rather than a description.

This certification also clears the ground for what comes next. We’ll have news soon about our new course-correction service for clinical trials and the first study using it.
